LAWEH HOLDS 4TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

The Laweh University College has graduated a total of 35 students with a call on them to use their knowledge acquired from the school to solve practical societal problems in the country.

It was on the theme: “Leveraging gains of Open Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) to improve quality tertiary education in Ghana”.

The Co-Founder of Laweh University, Prof. (Mrs) Goski Alabi, who made the call at the school’s fourth graduation ceremony last Thursday, said, the fourth industrial revolution had made open distance and e-learning the “new normal”, and thus urged the government to come out with strategies on digitalisation and its agenda on education.

Prof. Alabi, who is also the Consulting President of the university, called on the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Ministry of Education to expedite action on the national policy on open distance e-learning and the establishment of the Ghana Open University.

This, she said, would build the needed competence on ODeL and develop the infrastructure and resources required for e-learning.

“We, therefore, call on government and the private sector to invest massively in ODeL infrastructure and train more people in its use for optimum delivery so that Ghanaians could maximise the benefits,” she added.

Prof. Alabi noted that the school had devised several techniques to ensure the quality of its examination and were ready to enter into a public-private partnership with the government to execute some cutting-edge approaches to teaching and learning.

Congratulating the students, she charged them to “be worthy ambassadors of Laweh University and use the values of leadership, innovation, flexibility and entrepreneurship (LIFE) in our daily lives”.

The Member of Parliament for Krowor Constituency, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said in order to sustain the gains of ODL, the country had to reevaluate its role with other stakeholders to remove hindrances to enhance access to higher education.

She explained that cost of education or attaining higher education was one of the challenges facing the country.

Mrs Alabi appealed to the MP and the Municipal Chief Executive to support the school in providing scholarships to persons with disabilities.

Lois Frimpong, a graduate of Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business Management won the overall best among the graduates.
